I have found Orthotool to be extremely valuable in helping me understand the construction and design of RGP lenses. It has also been able to help me control some lab costs with complicated lenses like ortho-k, multifocal and post-RK fits.
Our Contact Lens Specialty Service at Pacific University uses the Orthotool lens design software on a daily basis for many of our normal and complex patients that require customized rigid lens designs. The Ortho Tool software purchase was the best invesment that I ever made practicing ortho-K along with the trial set to define the lens design. I have been using Orthotool for the past few years for most of my initial Ortho-K fitting and the success rate improved in a great deal when the diagnostic fitting was incorporated. It is a great tool as a learning guide also and I do play around with the parameters to determine the changes in tear film profile. The tear film profile is a great way to visualize the tear volume under the complex lens design and allows to manipulate all the curves for any changes. I have been using this software for the aspheric and the multifocal designs also. As an orthokeratologist, this software is the MUST- TO- HAVE to enjoy the designing your own lenses and also as a learning tool.
